CVT Pulley
The CVT pulley family: the primary pulley at the input and the secondary pulley at the output.

Two pulleys, one job
A CVT has two pulleys. The primary pulley, also called the drive pulley, is the input pulley. The secondary pulley, also called the driven pulley, is the output pulley. The belt or chain runs between them, and the ratio changes as each pulley changes its working diameter. The parts table gives those two rows, plus the pulley set that contains them and the pulley cylinder that moves them. No other pulley row is listed for CVT, and this page lists no other.
The pulley overview exists because buyers arrive with the general word pulley and need to be routed to the right specific page. A buyer who needs the input side goes to the primary pulley page. A buyer who needs the output side goes to the secondary pulley page. A buyer who needs both, or who is not sure which side has failed, goes to the pulley set page. A buyer whose problem is pressure rather than a pulley itself goes to the pulley cylinder page.
| Pulley page | Table name | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Primary pulley | Primary Pulley / Drive Pulley | Input pulley |
| Secondary pulley | Secondary Pulley / Driven Pulley | Output pulley |
| Pulley set | Pulley Set | Both pulleys as a complete set |
| Pulley cylinder | CVT Pulley Cylinder | Pressure part that moves a pulley |
